As students head back to school, let us help you make the school commute easier. Whether you’re in middle school, high school, or college, public transit is a convenient, reliable, and free way to get to where you need to go.
Getting started is easy! Download the Transit app to plan your trip, view real-time arrivals, and access bus schedules right from your phone. The app is free and available on Apple and Android devices.
You can also visit Suntran.com to explore routes, view schedules, and find the information you need before heading to class.
Before the first day of school, remember to:
- Plan your route in advance
- Check bus schedules
- Arrive at your bus stop at least five minutes early
Start the school year off on the right route. Ride smart, ride safely, and let us get you to class!
Starting Sunday, August 16, Sun Tran, Sun Express, and Sun Shuttle will implement service and route changes. Riders are encouraged to review the upcoming changes and plan their trips before traveling.
Sun Tran and Sun Express
Several routes will receive routing updates:
- Route 4 will now service Udall Transit Station, replacing service to South Kolb Road.
- Route 8 will merge with Route 108X, extending service to Houghton Road while increasing frequency to every 15 minutes.
- Route 9 will be extended to Pima Community College East, replacing service to Udall Transit Station.
- Sun Express Routes 102X and 104X will merge into a single route. Service along Speedway Boulevard will be discontinued. Riders traveling to Speedway Boulevard and Campbell Avenue can use Route 103X. Sun Express is also introducing Route 124X – Northwest-Downtown Express, providing convenient service between Oro Valley, Marana and Downtown Tucson.
In addition to these routing updates, Routes 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16, 19, 34, 37, 61, 62 and 124X will receive schedule adjustments.
As part of the August service changes, Route 10 at Ronstadt Transit Center will relocate to Bay O on Sixth Avenue. Wayfinding maps will be displayed at the transit center to help riders navigate the new boarding location.
Sun Shuttle
Routes 401, 412, 413, 421X, 430, and 450 will receive schedule changes.
Plan Ahead
Updated maps and schedules are available at Suntran.com, where riders can view route information, access the latest schedules and maps, and plan their trips before traveling.
Riders can also use the Transit App to track buses in real time, receive service alerts, view estimated arrival times, and plan their trips. The app’s GO feature provides step-by-step audio and visual navigation throughout each journey.

Beginning Sunday, August 16, more Tucsonans will have access to free, on-demand public transportation as Sun on Demand launches a new service zone on Tucson’s east side. The expansion marks the largest Sun On Demand zone, giving riders a convenient new way to connect to work, school, shopping and other destinations.
Covering approximately double the size of Sun On Demand’s existing service zones, the new east side zone will serve the Tanque Verde Road to Golf Links Road and Wilmot Road to Houghton Road areas, bringing reliable, on-demand transportation to a growing part of the city.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to making public transportation more accessible and convenient for everyone in Tucson,” said Panya Chhoeuy, Sun Van Assistant General Manager. “By creating this new Sun On Demand zone, we’re making it easier for residents to travel throughout the city and connect with the services, jobs and opportunities that matter most.”
Sun On Demand is a free, shared curb-to-curb transit service that allows riders to travel anywhere within a designated service zone. The new east side zone also provides convenient connections to Sun Tran Routes 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 17 and 37, linking riders to more destinations throughout the region.
Service Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 6 a.m. – 8 a.m.
- Saturday: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Sunday/Holidays: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
How to Ride
Reserving a ride is simple. Riders can download the free Sun On Demand app, available for Apple and Android devices, or call Sun Van Reservations at (520) 798-1000. Riders can book their trips one to seven days in advance, and same-day reservations may be available.
Whether traveling to work, school, or other destination, riders now have another convenient, fare-free option for getting around Tucson.

The City of Tucson is launching Safe City Connect: Transit, a new community engagement series where you can learn about the Transit Safety and Security Action Plan, ask questions, and share feedback on initiatives like security services, police patrols, bus stop improvements, incident tracking, and the new Transit Ambassador Program.
While transit fares won’t be discussed during these meetings, there will be opportunities to provide input through other City public processes.

Sun Tran is teaming up with The Salvation Army Tucson for a Stuff-the-Bus school supply drive on Friday, August 14, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Walmart Supercenter, 7150 East Speedway Boulevard.
This community event invites Tucsonans to help fill a Sun Tran bus with much-needed school supplies for students from elementary through high school. Volunteers will be on-site collecting donations all day. Families are also encouraged to stop by to enjoy a special appearance by the crews from the Tucson Fire Department, with a fire truck on display from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Together, we can help children walk into their classroom feeling confident, cared for, and ready to learn!
Need a ride? No problem! Board Routes 4 and 9, which are located a few feet from Walmart. Hop off at Speedway Boulevard/Kolb Road and walk South to the Walmart.
This summer, Sun Tran is bringing its popular Learn to Ride program into your neighborhood with free training sessions at local council offices. Whether you’re riding for the first time, returning to transit or simply looking to build your confidence, these hands-on sessions are designed to help you travel.
This month’s session will take place on Wednesday, August 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ward 5 Council Office, 4300 S. Park Avenue.
Participants will learn how to:
- Plan your trip using Sun Tran services
- Read bus schedules and route maps
- Board, ride, and exit the bus safely
- Use accessibility features
- Navigate the Transit App

To reach the Sun Tran Administration Building by transit, take Route 10 and exit at Romero Road/Smoot Drive. From there, walk west on Smoot Drive to the Sun Tran entrance. Reserve your spot by emailing SunTranMarketing@tucsonaz.gov or feel free to stop by on the day of the event.

Construction, roadway improvements and special events are impacting service on select routes. Major detours or temporarily discontinued stops are currently in place for Routes 9, 25 and 29. We encourage riders to plan ahead and check for the latest updates before traveling.
